Corpus Christi area soils are predominantly sandy loam and low-plasticity silty clay in coastal and near-port areas. These soils compact differently from Houston's high-plasticity clay and require moisture management during compaction to avoid density failure under proof roll. Wind erosion is also a factor on cleared sites in the Coastal Bend, which affects dust control planning and TCEQ stormwater permit compliance on active grading operations.
