811 is the national call-before-you-dig number. Calling 811 at least two business days before excavation begins triggers a locate request that notifies utility operators to mark the locations of their buried facilities. This is a legal requirement in Texas under the Underground Facility Damage Prevention and Safety Act. On commercial sites with complex existing utility infrastructure, 811 locate compliance is especially important because unmarked conflicts with active utilities create safety hazards, costly repairs, and schedule delays that are entirely preventable.
